Tratamientos de periodoncia en la clínica RBG

What is periodontics?

Periodontology is a specialty of dentistry dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases, which affect the gums and supporting tissues of the teeth.

The most common signs of these diseases include inflammation, redness and bleeding when brushing, as well as gum retraction, mobility or separation of teeth, sensation of "longer teeth", bad breath, among others.

It is crucial to treat these pathologies as soon as possible, since their evolution can lead to the destruction of the bone that supports the teeth. If you have detected any of these signs, at RBG-CLINIC we are here to advise you and provide you with the appropriate treatment.

“Periodontal diseases not only affect the gums, they also compromise the general health of our body.”

What are periodontal diseases?

Periodontal diseases are pathologies that affect the periodontium, the area surrounding the tooth, composed of the gum, the alveolar bone, the root cementum, the periodontal ligament and the root of the tooth.

These diseases appear when the tissues that support the teeth become inflamed due to the continuous deposit of bacteria, known as plaque. In Spain, it is estimated that approximately 85% of people over 35 years of age suffer from some form of periodontal disease.

Within gum diseases, we distinguish two main phases:

  • Gingivitis: This is superficial inflammation of the gums. Its main warning sign is bleeding. If it is not treated with a professional cleaning and proper oral hygiene, it can progress to periodontitis.
  • Periodontitis: This is a deep inflammation that affects the gums and supporting tissues of the teeth. It can be localized or extend to the entire mouth. If left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss.

“A healthy smile starts with healthy gums. Detecting and treating periodontal diseases early is key.”
